15.09.2021 Der am 17. Oktober 1959 in Québec geborene kanadische Schauspieler, Drehbuchautor und Komiker Norman Gene MacDonald (Bild) ist am 14. September 2021 in Los Angeles gestorben. Berühmt wurde er u.a. als Mitglied der legendären amerikanischen Fernseh-Comedy-Show "Saturday Night Live" des Senders NBC.

Macdonald was known for his laconic, deadpan voice and for his impressions — including his take on Burt Reynolds, who famously gave Will Ferrell's Alex Trebek character grief on SNL's recurring "Celebrity Jeopardy" sketch. He also impersonated Bob Dole, Larry King and David Letterman.

He was the last stand-up comedian to appear on "The Late Show" with David Letterman, where he had been a frequent guest. At the end of that performance, Macdonald became overwhelmed with emotion, and teared up as he reminisced with Letterman.

'We lost a comedy giant': Conan O'Brien, Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler mourn Norm Macdonald

Tributes are pouring in for Norm Macdonald after the the comedian and former "Saturday Night Live" cast member died on Tuesday.

Conan O'Brien, who hosted Macdonald on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and "Conan" several times, said he's "absolutely devastated" by the news.

"Norm had the most unique comedic voice I have ever encountered and he was so relentlessly and uncompromisingly funny," O'Brien tweeted. "I will never laugh that hard again. I'm so sad for all of us today."

MacDonald verliess die High School im Alter von 15 Jahren und arbeitete zuerst als Stand-Up-Comedian. Auf der "Comedy-Central"-Liste "Die 100 besten Stand-up-Comedians aller Zeiten" belegte er Platz 83. Er schrieb Drehbücher einiger Folgen der Fernsehserien "Roseanne", "The Dennis Miller Show" und "Free to Laugh: A Comedy and Music Special for Amnesty International" aus dem Jahr 1992. Seine erste Filmrolle spielte er in der Komödie "Billy Madison – Ein Chaot zum Verlieben" aus dem Jahr 1995. In der Komödie "Dirty Work" (1998) übernahm er eine der Hauptrollen, ausserdem schrieb er das Drehbuch mit. In der Fernsehserie "A Minute with Stan Hooper" spielte er in den Jahren 2003 und 2004 die Titelrolle von Stan Hooper, ausserdem produzierte er die Serie mit.
