MONTREUX-JAZZ-TALENT-AWARD 2021 FÜR MESKEREM MEES AUS BELGIEN

28.09.2021 Die 22jährige belgische Sängerin und Komponistin Meskerem Mees (Bild) hat den Nachwuchswettbewerb Montreux-Jazz-Talent-Award 2021 mit einstimmigen Entscheiden von Fach- und Publikumsjurys sowie des Artists Committee (Yaron Herman, Anne Paceo, Shabaka Hutchings und Michael League) gewonnen. Mit dem Preis ist ein einwöchiger Künstleraufenthalt in La Becque am Genfersee und ein Auftritt an der Montreux-Jazz-Academy vom 27. bis 30. Oktober 2021 verbunden.

The vote for Meskerem Mees was unanimous

Beautifully composed tunes, a magnetic presence and a distinct velvet voice: Meskereem Mees was a true revelation during the competition, impressing all three juries. The (...) Flemish musician says she is inspired by artists such as Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone and Courtney Barnett. After releasing a handful of singles including the stunning "Joe", Meskerem Mees is set to release her highly anticipated debut album, "Julius", on November 12, 2021.
