12.07.2021 Der am 6. Juli 1944 in Caldwell (Kansas) geborene US-amerikanische Geiger Byron Berline (Bild) ist am 10. Juli 2021 gestorben. Er hat in zahlreichen amerikanischen Stilrichtungen brilliert, so in Oldtime, Ragtime, Bluegrass, Blues, Cajun, Country und US-Rock. Er spielte an der Seite von Bluegrass-Ikonen wie Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Ricky Skaggs oder Doc Watson. Berline war ein gesuchter Studio- und Sessionmusiker, so wurde er beispielsweise engagiert von Bob Dylan, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, John Denver, den Rolling Stones, The Byrds, The Eagles, The Band, Manhattan Transfer, The Doobie Brothers oder The Flying Burrito Brothers. Byron Berline spielte auch mit den schweizerisch-amerikanischen Kruger Brothers.

Byron Berline, legendary Oklahoma fiddle player, dead at 77

A three-time National Fiddle Champion, Berline is a member of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and the National Fiddler Hall of Fame. (…) He played music all over the world, including Europe, Asia, Australia, North Africa and the South Pacific.

Berline recorded with numerous musical acts, including Bob Dylan, Elton John, The Flying Burrito Brothers and The Rolling Stones.

The Rolling Stones flew him to California to record “Country Honk,” a country version of “Honky Tonk Women,” for the album called “Let It Bleed.” (…)

Berline also contributed work to several movies, including “Back to the Future III” and “Basic Instinct.”

I met Byron a long time ago at a Bluegrass Festival and we instantly became pals. He "got" me, and I saw in him so many of the qualities I love in people.

He was sincere, sensitive, funny, and humbly walked this earth and inspired all of us out here. His dedication to spreading good music to the masses was powerful and a great example to follow.

Byron Berline is gone at 77. So many memories flooding in. I met him when I was 12, I got to play with him. It was so beautiful. I loved it so much, all through the years. We'll play your "Gold Rush" here soon. So much love for my fiddle hero.
