28.07.2021 Dusty Hill (Bild), der am 19. Mai 1949 in Dallas (Texas) geborene US-amerikanische Bassist und zweite Sänger der Band ZZ Top, ist am 28. Juli 2021 in Houston gestorben. Zusammen mit den zwei andern Bandmitgliedern wurde Dusty Hill im Jahr 2004 in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aufgenommen. ZZ Top hatten mit ihrer Mischung aus Texas Blues, Bluesrock, Boogie, Southern Rock und Hard Rock vor allem in den 1980er-Jahren grosen Erfolg und füllten auf ausgedehnten Tourneen Konzerthallen und Stadien.*

ZZ Top's Dusty Hill Dead: Longtime Bassist Dies at 72

ZZ Top has landed seven albums on the Billboard 200's top 10: "Tres Hombres" at No. 8 in 1974, "Fandango!" at No. 10 in 1975, "Eliminator" at No. 9 in 1983, "Afterburner" at No. 4 in 1985, "Recycler" at No. 6 in 1990, "Greatest Hits" at No. 9 in 1992, and "La Futura" at No. 6 in 2012. ZZ Top received the "Moonman" for best group video for "Legs" at the first MTV Video Music Awards in September 1984. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. They received three Grammy nominations.

Joseph “Dusty” Hill, ZZ Top’s bassist for more than 50 years, has died

While ZZ Top was best known for their synthesizer-powered 1980s hits, they were a thoroughly Texan, heavy rock-blues band at heart, spawned from the same psychedelic scene that birthed Roky Erickson and the 13th Floor Elevators but keeping things roots and rocking throughout their more than 50-year career, even as they incorporated synthesized rhythms into their sound in the 1980s.

As well as playing bass guitar, Hill also played keyboard and sang backing and lead vocals for the band.

They were all inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. He made appearances in Back to the Future Part III and Deadwood and also played himself in King of the Hill.
